The Microbial Organic Acid Test (MOAT) analyses 21 metabolites, including creatinine. It detects metabolic by-products from beneficial and harmful bacteria, Clostridia species, Candida, other yeasts, and fungal or mould organisms. This helps assess imbalances in the gut microbiome, commonly called dysbiosis.
2-Hydroxyhippuric, 2-Hydroxyphenylacetic, 3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaric (CoQ10),
3-Indoleacetic, 3-Methylglutaric, 3-Oxoglutaric,
4-Cresol (C. difficile), 4-Hydroxybenzoic, 4-Hydroxyhippuric, 4-Hydroxyphenylacetic.
A urine sample is needed. Complete collection instructions will be provided with your test kit.
• Women should avoid collecting samples during menstruation.
• Limit fluid intake from 6 pm the night before collection to prevent sample dilution.
• Refrain from consuming alcohol for 48 hours before collection.
• Avoid apples, grapes, pears, cranberries, and any related juices or products for 24 hours prior.
• Do not take arabinogalactan, echinacea, reishi mushrooms, or ribose supplements for 48 hours before collection.
• Do not stop any prescribed medications without first consulting your healthcare provider.
The MOAT microbial organic acids test is suitable for individuals aged 3 years and above.
Please return your sample between Monday and Thursday using the courier service and the prepaid label in your test kit. Follow the provided shipping instructions carefully to ensure timely delivery.
If the day after your collection is not a working day in the UK, store your sample in the freezer and send it on the next available working day.
Tests typically take 2 to 3 weeks from the date you send them back. We will email you the results when we receive them.
